PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
