Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
